We brought our ’47 Mercury Woodie over to Calvary church in Westlake. It was on display to promote their first car show which took place on June 17th. It was a long process to get the car into position inside their building. Check out the video!

Chevrolet Club visits the museum
Today we welcomed the Chevrolet Club at the museum for a rare weekday event. Most of the members drove their classics to the event. There were some nice cars in their group. After touring the collection, the club ordered in a pizza lunch before heading out for the afternoon.

Museum welcomes the Checkered Flag 200
Under the threat of rain last Sunday, we hosted an event for Petersen Museum welcoming the Checkered Flag 200. Checkered Flag is the premier membership group of the Petersen Automotive Museum with exclusive benefits for the dedicated automotive enthusiast including travel opportunities, visits to private collections, day tours and rallies, special events at the museum, and more.
The rain arrived just as the event was about to get underway. Once inside, guests were treated to a coffee bar, taco bar, BBQ, and our fresh baked cookies, all served among the cars in the collection. More than 500 cookies were baked and served in our kitchen!

First open house of 2023
The first open house of the year is now in the books! Yesterday we welcomed the Woody Club, the Porsche club, Central Coast British Car Club, Mercedes Club, Corvette club, and the RX-7 Club. Close to 200 people were in attendance. Dozens of fresh-baked cookies were served and a generous sum of donations was collected for cancer research and the Humane Society. Thanks to all who attended!

Mike Meets Dr Porsche!
Pretty exciting day! Mike was invited to a private lunch at Bruce Meyers’ garage and was told that Dr. Wolfgang Porsche would be there.
Well, the rusted wheels in Mike’s brain started moving, albeit very slowly. Would this be a once in a lifetime opportunity to have the Dr. sign the dash of his 918 Porsche??? Absolutely!!! Mike emailed Bruce with his brilliant idea. He mentioned “Only with his permission” would he bring it. He said “Bring it.”
We were upstairs when Bruce approached the Dr. with the request. Dr. Porsche pulled Mike aside and said “Are you sure you want me to sign your dash?” Mike said it would be an honor.
The 918 is Mike’s favorite newish car. After lunch and having the Porsche family DNA permanently on the 918, he was on cloud 9. Guess he will never sell it.

Ramshorn Rally 2021
This past week we took part in the Ramshorn Rally. It’s an annual favorite. This marque Porsche event is open to 1989 and older cars. Outlaws are welcome. Entries are limited thirty cars. The event started in Gateway, Colorado (50 miles southwest of Grand Junction) and ended in Grand Junction, CO.
The route started by driving the 30-mile stretch of red rock cliffs along the Dolores River. Over the next five days we ventured into Southwest Colorado up the box canyon into Telluride, then back toward the Four Corners region and through the vast sandstone buttes of Monument Valley.
We continued down into south central Utah through the white domes and cliffs of Navajo Sandstone in Capitol Reef National Park, the spectacular cliffs and terraces of the Grand Staircase-Escalante area, passing by the crimson-colored hoodoos of Bryce Canyon, and the steep red cliffs of Zion National Park. From there we traveled south through the great expanse of escarpments which make up the plateau of Vermillion Cliffs National Monument. Finally, we made our way back north past Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon Dam before reaching the end of our route in Grand Junction. It’s great to be taking part in events again!

Porsche 904 heads out to the Thermal Club
We recently took the Porsche 904 out to the Thermal Club in the Coachella Valley for some track time. The car is fantastic on the track. We diced it up with a Porsche 906 for several laps.

SoCal Vintage BMW Meet at Woodley Park
This past Saturday we brought out 3 cars to the SoCal Vintage BMW Meet at Woodley Park. Cool fall weather returned for the show. It was a nice break from all the wind and fires of the past week. We actually had a few sprinkles. The show was well-attended. We took home Driver’s Choice wins for Best Early Model and Best of Meet for our ’56 502 cabriolet.

Open House
Yesterday we welcomed several clubs to the museum for a visit. Those in attendance were the Alfa Club, Porsche Club, Corvette Club, and the Woodies Club, among others. Out back, we put together a camping display with some of the trailers and campers that we have in the collection. Our general store trailer made its first appearance as being part of our collection. San Marino Concours 2019
Last Sunday we brought out the Euro spec ’74 Porsche RS to the San Marino Concours. Usually we bring vintage Japanese cars to the show but there was no Japanese class this year. Route 66 National Parks Tour
Hello from the Route 66 National Parks Tour! We brought the ’65 Mustang GT convertible out for the tour. First stop was Grand Canyon. In Bryce Canyon, there was still snow on the ground. The car completed the tour with no issues!

The ’53 Dannenhauer & Stauss Cabriolet is just about ready for a trip across the country to Amelia Island.
Dannanhauer and Stauss was a German custom coach builder based out of Stuttgart, Germany. They created new bodies with a distinct Porsche flavor on a Volkswagen platform and mechanicals.

15th annual Malibu Christmas Woody Parade
Last weekend we had the ’41 Chrysler Barrel Back Woody out for the 15th annual Malibu Christmas Woody Parade. The Woody Parade ended at Malibu Village, where Woodies filled the streets. Guests enjoyed live music by southern California party band, The Hodads. Holiday food and drinks were also served. Given the recent devastating fires in Malibu, the Woody Parade had special meaning this year as the community came together.

Porsche minis added to the collection
This week we received a delivery of some of the smallest cars in one of the biggest trucks. They’re kid cars! Aren’t they cool?! The craftsmanship on these miniatures is pretty amazing.
The 904 is battery powered. It even makes the right engine noises from a built-in mp3 player and speakers under the rear deck. It also has a working horn and lights. The race car is gas powered but we’re not sure what kid would be strong enough to handle the steering wheel!

Malamut ’55 Mercedes takes part in the 300 SL Classic
This week for four days (November 4-8), we’re participating in the 300 SL Classic. The event drives 1000 miles of the best backroads that northern Arizona has to offer: from Scottsdale to Winslow to Sedona to the Grand Canyon and back to Scottsdale. All Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Coupes “Gullwings” (1954-1957) and Roadsters (1957-1963) are eligible for the 300 SL Classic.

Rally Nippon 2018 with the Toyota 2000GT
This week we are taking part in Rally Nippon with the Toyota 2000GT. Last year the rally ran in Japan. This year the organizers decided to bring the rally over to California for a tour to celebrate their 10th anniversary. This video is from the rally introduction and starting line. The event took us through Monterey and a run through Laguna Seca, among other places. Lots of great cars, roads, and people on this event. Honda N360 and Toyota S800 take awards at the Japanese Classic Car Show

Malamut Museum cars to be featured in “Ford vs Ferrari” movie
This has been the summer of movie cars for the museum! This current batch of cars is on its way to a film shoot for a new Matt Damon movie. The working title of the movie is “Ford vs. Ferrari”. The movie from 20th Century Fox will star Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby and Christian Bale as engineer and racing driver Ken Miles. According to Variety, the film focuses on Shelby and Miles’ effort to turn the GT40 into a Le Mans-winning machine. The movie is set for release on June 28, 2019.

Malamut Museum cars featured in Tarantino film
Fun night on the set last night in downtown LA with the Malamut Museum cars for Quentin Tarantino’s film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. This scene was in Italy, 1969.
We saw Al Pacino, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Margot Robbie. The set crew jumped on people with cameras so no shots of them unfortunately. We sent several cars to various sets for the film. For more photos, please visit this link.

Malamut Museum open house a big hit with the car community
We had a BIG turnout last weekend at our open house last weekend! This year’s open house included several car clubs: Redline Corvette Club, Audi Club, Mercedes Club, AAC. Also in attendance were members/followers of Bringatrailer.com, Conejo Cars and Coffee, and many others. This has probably been one of our biggest events to date.

San Marino Concours
It was a beautiful day for a show yesterday at the San Marino Car Classic. We brought our Honda 360 (a recent acquisition from France) and the Toyota Sport 800. As reported earlier, we took second in class with the Toyota. The Honda had a lot of admirers.
The show had well over 300 cars entered. There was something for everyone. Lacy Park is a great venue. It’s a very large park with lush landscaping. It has several alcoves around the perimeter that allow several of the different classes to be placed. When wandering through the grounds, it’s almost like several smaller shows taking place at the same time. In addition to the regular entrants, Adam Carolla brought out his collection of former Paul Newman race cars.

Ramshorn Rally 2018
We recently brought the 911 RS Porsche hotrod up to the Ramshorn Rally. The 2018 Ramshorn Rally route is an accumulation of several motorcycle routes that were scouted and run in the last couple of years. This year we explored western Colorado with the opening night in Gateway Canyons Resort. Our route took us as far south as Santa Fe, New Mexico. We drove the famous San Juan Hwy that crosses Coal Bank Pass, Molas Divide and Red Mountain Pass. The twisty road along the rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison River is an amazing road. We went from red rocks and desert to 11,000′ passes above timberline.

Roadtrip to Jamul
We recently took an endurance one day road trip to Jamul, CA to pick up some new acquisitions for the museum: a 1967 Toyota Sport 800, two vintage Honda motorcycles, and some memorabilia. The traffic on the way was a little rough. Jamul is south east of San Diego. Pulling a trailer also limits the options for saving time. We left the museum at 11:30am and didn’t return to the museum until almost 2am! We think the purchase was well worth the drive. The car and the bikes are all in beautiful condition. Luftgekühlt 5
We brought the Porsche 911SC RS Tribute car out this past weekend to Luftgekühlt 5, a show for air-cooled Porsches.
The Luftgekühlt brand is the brainchild of two-time Le Mans winner Patrick Long and noted Southern California creative director Howie Idelson. A true Porsche happening, Luftgekühlt is an experiential car culture event centered around a tightly curated list of historically significant or interesting cars.
History buffs will be aware that the initial series of aluminum-bodied 356 models were constructed at an old sawmill in Gmünd, Austria. As a tribute to that, the show took place in a lumber yard in Torrance, CA.

La Jolla Concours
We brought the Mazda Cosmo and the Mazda 360 out for this past weekend’s La Jolla Concours event. Former owner of the cars and all around great guy, Glen Roberts, was also at the show. Glen restored the cars. While at the show, he made some adjustments to the Cosmo and also talked the cars up with the judges. The Cosmo ended up taking first in class. You can’t have two “first places” in the same class. The 360 took second place. It must have been difficult for the judges to make a decision because they are both perfect cars.

Holy Land 1000
Last month we shipped the green ’64 Porsche (the same car that was in Japan for a rally) to Israel for the Holy Land 1000 Tour.
Approximately 60 vintage cars participated in this unique road event. Driving 1000 miles through the land of Israel in six days allowed participants to experience the remarkably diverse culture, climate and topography of Israel.
The tour departed the Mediterranean coastal city of Tel Aviv, through the beautiful terrain of the Negev desert, the snow caps of the Golan Heights, then dropping to the lowest point of earth – the Dead Sea. We then visited the Red Sea town of Eilat, drove along the Sea of Galilee and visited the must-see cities of Jerusalem and Nazareth. Our voyage took us through mainly rural areas where the driving and roads were top notch.

The Peninsula Tokyo Rally Nippon 2017
We recently took part in the The Peninsula Tokyo Rally Nippon 2017 with the 1964 Porsche 356 C that we shipped to Japan. The event brought classic-car enthusiasts from around the world together. The 4 day journey took us through some spectacular scenery across the highways and hillside passes of Honshu Island from Kyoto to Tokyo. The rally spanned a total of 1,000 kilometers, or 620 miles. 80 pairs of drivers and passengers of beautifully restored vintage cars took part in the event.

The Citroën 2cv gets some love
While visiting the museum with the Tour Americal, Citroën guru Frank Elsermans from Belgium gave our Charleston 2CV a little love. While the party was taking place, Frank installed a new top on the car that he brought with him and also replaced a leaking fuel line. He even donated a spare fuel pump! Frank knows 2CVs. He has 300+ 2CVs back in Belgium!

2-day Open House is a big success!
This past weekend’s 2 day open house will go down as one of the best. We had a large group from Belgium that was on a tour half way across the US and made the museum one of their final stops on their long journey. They shipped over 80 cars from Belgium.
In addition to the group from Belgium, we also welcomed members from PCA, the Corvair Club, several members from Bringatrailer, The Checkered Flag 200, AACA Socal, Central Coast British Car Club, the Petersen Museum
and several others.
Visitors were treated to breakfast and dessert crepes made to order and a different band playing each morning. Mike even stepped in with his guitar on both days and joined the band for a couple of tunes.
The event was well-attended. The surrounding streets and parking lots had a lot of great cars as well.

Fiat Dino at The Quail

Touge Rally 2017

Open house: Cars & Coffee After Party – March 25, 2017
Cars and Coffee After Party: We had a really big turnout for yesterday’s open house at the museum. After the local Cars & Coffee event, the Corvair Club, Corvette Club, and several people who were attending the event caravaned over to the museum for a visit. The collection of cars parked along the streets outside the museum was just as fun to check out as the cars inside. The museum provided pizza and snacks to all.

1965 Ford Mustang added to the collection
We recently purchased this 1965 Ford Mustang from original owners John and Demetra. The car had been in the family for 52 years. Demerta drove it, her husband drove it and their two sons drove it. It had served the family admirably over those years. Demetra had a remarkable journey with this car. It took her several months to finally purchase a much loved Mustang, but she wanted air and the first group was a 6. When she saw this car In front of Hutchings Ford in Arcadia, CA. she made a quick left turn and the rest is history. The car had air, was a great color and had the distinction of a white stripe. As a young female, all car salesman wanted to sell her a pink or light blue car….She resisted and hit the jackpot with “her car of choice”. Demetra and her husband are getting older now, therefore, thought it is time for the car to find a new home, rather than just going to Ralphs for milk. We will give it a good home. We will keep it original and only plan to tidy things up a bit.

Rev Auto Concours – Sherwood Country Club
We brought several cars to the Rev Auto Concours this past weekend. The smaller cars were placed in the dining area which made for a nice backdrop while diners dined and a jazz band played on the stage. The Toyota 2000 shared an outdoor patio with a couple of Ferraris. The Fiat Dino was fresh from the paint shop, just in time for the show. The Toyota 800S made it’s show debut as well.

Classic Auto Show 2017
This weekend’s Classic Auto Show was a really nice show. We had a prime parking space right in the middle of the venue with our 1941 Chrysler barrelback woody. There was something for everyone’s taste with the variety of cars that were on display. The discussion panels with the guys from the various Velocity Channel programs was great too. It was interesting to learn their stories of how they got to where they are today. If you missed the show, you missed a good one.
